Warren Cooksey for City Council
Summary: “More Roads”
Regardless of what happens with the transit tax, we must increase our emphasis on relieving congestion when prioritizing road projects. Of direct interest to District 7, last year the City Council removed planned improvements to Rea Road from the 2006 transportation bond, so we are now falling further behind. Warren Cooksey supports dedicating future growth revenue–that is, the new property taxes collected on new development each year–to address our local road needs first and foremost. The City Council should also tighten its legislative agenda to emphasize relief of traffic congestion.

Though it may seem like it, “reduce vehicle miles traveled (VMT) per capita” is not government jargon for reducing congestion. Reducing VMT is an important initiative, but it is not enough. Warren Cooksey supports transportation initiatives that include measures of congestion and the level of service provided by Charlotte’s roads.
